Starter battery technologies are evolving and offer both electrical and functional benefits. During engine starts the short circuit currents are very important. Historically only lead batteries were recommended. Today with Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePO4 batteries, the discharge currents are equivalent, but in the case of LiFePO4, this current is constant until the battery is completely discharged. In the case of lead, the higher the discharge current, the lower the usable capacity of the battery.Moreover, these LiFePO4 batteries are more ecological, have a reduced volume (factor 2 to 5), a reduced weight (divided by 7) and an extended life span (2 to 5 times more cycles).
